MASTER IN EUROPEAN STUDIES (8th EDITION)

Brussels, from September 22th to December 19th, 2008

Designed for those who wish to study, understand and experience Europe, the Master in European Studies is a postgraduate programme which provides students with a specialised grounding in the European dimension at the institutional, policy and funding levels. It is organized by the European desk of the Belgian-Italian Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the Institute of European Studies of the Université Libre de Bruxelles.

The Master's programme teaches its participants the procedures of European planning, enabling them to coordinate and manage projects which follow the guidelines suggested by the European Commission. We have chosen to train them in Brussels, because we believe that only in the capital of Europe is it possible to set up a serious EU training programme. Only in Brussels is one able to maintain permanent contact with EU institutions and the consultants who work for them and with them.

Indeed, not many advisors know how to support companies and organisations in practical terms, when it comes to using the resources that the EU makes available regarding internationalisation and innovation processes. The Master's course aims to train an expert in EU-related planning, and graduates of the Master's programme may work in consulting firms, in Chambers of Commerce, in the Euro Info Centres, in multinational companies which are involved in a process of internationalisation, and in small and medium sized companies within the service sector. The Master's graduate may also work as a Community Advisor for European business companies.

The Master's degree programme is organised into three sections, with the first being a theoretical survey of European Institutions and Community Policies. The second section focuses upon European planning and programmes, and provides practical training dealing with actual cases. Finally, there is a third section of lectures held at the major European institutions, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, the European Council and the European Investment Bank in Luxembourg. In addition, many weekly meetings are scheduled with experts, advisors and lobbyists who  work in Brussels.

The training is set up to provide a sound theoretical knowledge combined with a thoroughly analysed practical part regarding European projects and an essential knowledge on how work is performed in Brussels.
